Praised by the New York Times as “meticulous and expressive,” Matt Evans is a percussionist and composer creating work with various projects throughout the country. Currently based in Brooklyn, Matt performs regularly with new music groups Bearthoven, Contemporaneous, and Ensemble Signal, while creating material with TIGUE, Rokenri, Man Forever, and Private Elevators. His performances have included acclaimed venues such as the The Kitchen, Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Tennessee Theater and New York City’s Museum of Modern Art.

Evans has worked closely on world premieres of composers Robert Honstein, Adrian Knight, Brooks Frederickson, Fjola Evans and Alex Weiser and performed alongside Tristan Perich, Steven Reker, and members of the Bang on a Can All-Stars and Eighth Blackbird. As a drummer/percussionist, he has been a featured performer on Q2 Music, the Tribeca New Music Festival, Bang on a Can Marathon, the MATA Festival, the Lincoln Center American Songbook Festival and the Big Ears Festival.

Evans received a Master of Music in Percussion Performance from the Eastman School of Music and a B.M. from the Ohio State University before moving to New York in the summer of 2012. Evans is a proud endorser of Vic Firth sticks and mallets.
